Listen to the Sounds

An evangelist was soon to speak to a large crowd when the of call nature compelled him to leave the platform. He had at least 10 minutes before he was to speak so he would not be missed. As it happened, he certainly wasn’t missed ….. he forgot to turn off the radio mike!  I’m glad to say I have a good ‘sound’ man who switches it off when we are singing!

Sound is very important. Many parents have sound sensory machines in the cot of their baby’s to monitor movement and sound. The sound of an alarm is essential to hear. However there are many sounds that annoy us, loud music coming from cars, piped music from the phone as you wait, and so on. Rarely do we find a place where we are completely free of sound. Complete silence. These are often the moments to hear the inner voice speaking to your heart and mind. It’s a good thing to find a quiet place to take time out and listen to your thoughts.

Meditation needs the sound of silence. Many Christians find meditation as a wonderful way of listening and speaking to God. Christians have found that the devotional practice of pondering the words of scripture with a receptive heart, and allowing the Holy Spirit to take the written word, for us to apply it, as  a wonderful means of praying.

Jeremiah the prophet said ‘when your words come, I ate them; they were my joy, and my hearts delight.’ (ch 15 v 16).

Find a quiet spot – listen to the sounds as you meditate on this verse from the bible, ‘The Lord’s my shepherd I shall not be in want’ (Psalm 23 v 1)
