Minister's Message Easter 2010

Fact or Fiction

Easter for the Christian is the most powerful, personal event in the history of the world. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus has turned our lives from despair to hope; defeat to victory; death to life.

Mere rhetoric can play no part in the raw reality of Christ’s resurrection. It is beyond words. To the non-believer it is beyond belief. Yet this is what Jesus requires us to do – believe!

Believe that Jesus said to his disciples (and us) ‘do not let you heart be troubled, trust in God, trust also in me.’ He went on to say that ‘heaven is awaiting me and all who trust in me will join me in heaven.’ John 14 vv 1 – 3

Verbally expressed

Jesus made some amazing statement about his death and resurrection.

John 12 v 33 ‘when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself.’  He said this to show what kind of death he was going to die.

John 3 v 14 ‘just as  Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.’

John 8 v 28 ‘when you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know who I am …..’

John 10 vv 17 – 18 ‘the reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life – only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.’

In the heat and heart of Jesus’ trial the Jews were trying to manoeuvre and manipulate Pilate’s judgement. The Bible says John 18 v 32 ‘this happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled.’

Verified experience

Everything happened just as the Bible said it would happen. Peter in his sermon at Pentecost said, Acts 2 v 24 ‘God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Vocally exclaimed

The message of the resurrection was continuously on the lips of the newly born church. It was a life changing message, lived out in their lives.

‘….. the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.’ Acts 4 v 2

‘ ….. they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.’ Acts 5 v 42
